Open Question: What are the benefits of binaural beat meditation?
I have read about isochronic, binaural, and monaural beats being used for meditation. Of course, every marketing website (like the “Silva” website) has some BS type of science backing it up*, which play on people’s greedy desires. “Meditate with this and unlock the genius IQ within you and attract success like a magnet,” blah, blah, blah.
They also say things like, “normal types of meditation can take years to have effects.” This isn’t true. I have learned how to be able to access the alpha state through simple breath meditation in only a little over a month. I am going to try and attain competence in all of the types of Samatha meditation too.
I believe that unless you try to concentrate while using the audio waves, you won’t attain concentration. I have heard that producing brain waves within ourselves has a different effect than having it be done by an outside source also.
Can anybody knowledgeable on normal types of meditation please point me to research that compares the two? I haven’t been able to find any. Would it be possible to use these beats to enhance my (concentration on) breath meditation? Most of these websites don’t offer instructions on a type of meditation to do, and they seem like they simply want you to lay down and relax. (And relaxation can be great for undoing stress, but it is no more profound than taking a nap!) Thank you in advance.
*I know that the science of binaural beats is real. It is just that some websites say things like:
“Through his professional knowledge, Silva already knew that reducing the resistance in an electrical wire allowed more electricity to flow through it (known as Ohm’s law). Using this theory as an anchor, he then wondered… “What would happen if you could reduce the resistance in the human brain?”
In other words, although binaural beats are a real science, the claims they make about how it effects the brain are conveniently never supported.
