Open Question: Why do many Christians think everything is against God?

Aug 16, 2012   //   by SueBennett   //   Blog  //  No Comments

I’m 15, and I stopped going to church once I realized that they shove stuff down your throat, force people to believe in God or be eternally punished, and how they don’t truly do what God said to do. Most Atheists know more about the scripture than a lot of Christians. Anyways, I always hear them saying everything is anti-God. For example, I read some guy saying that “sleeping with a dream catcher is anti-god because you aren’t putting faith in him and him only!”
And another: “meditation is anti-christ!” Without any solid reasoning. Meditation is a form of relaxation, not Satanic worship. Just because other religions use this to reach inner peace and happiness, doesn’t mean it’s for that religion only.
And even another: “Harry Potter is anti-christ because he is a warlock!” Really? It’s a movie.
Explain to me why so many Christians do this…
Here’s something that is anti-god: lining up at Chick Fil A to give to gay-hate groups. You don’t see nearly that many Christians lined up to volunteer at a homeless shelter or anything like that and that is something a Christian should really do. Debate away.

Open Question: Harry Potter a doorway to demonic possesion?

Jul 17, 2012   //   by SueBennett   //   Blog  //  No Comments

I recently was handed a pamphlet from a Christian missionary going door to door. I’m not a religious person so I was going to just throw it away but something caught my eye. A hole page dedicate to things that are doorways to demonic possession and components of “Satan’s Spiritual Structure”.
Many things I wasn’t surprised about doing drugs, heavy metal, ETC. But alot of them were JUST RIDICULOUS! Here’s a few: Harry Potter, Twilight Books, Vegetarianism, Yoga, Earth Worship, Meditation, Video Games, Dungeons and Dragons, Astrology. I’m sorry but WTF? I’m assuming these are the beliefs of extremist groups and of course not all Christians believe this. What are your thoughts on this?

Open Question: What should we do with these rooms?

May 27, 2012   //   by SueBennett   //   Blog  //  No Comments

I’m not talking about just decoration themes for bedrooms, but what to actually do with an entirely empty room. We’ve got three empty rooms in our house and no idea what to do with them! There’s one downstairs that’s not too big but it’s got a nice wood floor. The large upstairs loft is most likely going to be turned into a music room, but we’re still not sure. And then there’s an empty bedroom that we’re not using or anything, and there’s nothing it it either. The bedroom is pretty small.
So my question is, what should we do with these rooms? We’ve already got enough guest bedrooms, so we don’t need any of those. The downstairs room with the wood floor might work for a sort of meditation room or even a Harry Potter shrine (we love Harry Potter here), but we’re not sure. We’re looking for fun, creative ideas to do with these empty rooms! A small room with a wood floor (and small closet), a large upstairs loft, and a small bedroom with a small closet and just plain carpet.
What to do???

Open Question: <3 A few questions about the Bible?

May 20, 2012   //   by SueBennett   //   Blog  //  No Comments

Hi everyone,
Ok, so I’m twelve years old, but I can already see what I may be like in the future. I love God, and I love Jesus and I beleive he was sent by God, and is the son of God, to save the world from sin. I know that when I die I want to go to Heaven, and I know I’m a sinner just like everyone else, and that my sins are forgiven when I ask for forgiveness and am truely sorry. I do have some questions…….

1) Deuteronomy 22:5 A women must not wear men’s clothing, nor a man wear womens clothing, for the LORD your God detests anyone who does this.

So, does this mean women are wrong to wear pants, or is it okay if theyr’e women’s pants made for females? And you know how sometimes if for example your a girl and your cold when your at school, so your guy friend let’s you wear his sweater or your boyfriend gives you his sweater or shirt or pants. Or if you buy a men’s jacket or tie because you can’t find one in the women’s department? Are any of those sin, or would it only be sin if your purposely ‘cross-dressing’ in order to appear as the opposite gender?

2) Mental diseases
God says not to kill, but then people with mental disorders sometimes commit crimes. But does it depend on the mental disorder? Example, a Schitzophrenic hears a voice telling them to murder, and they do, is it bad? God is the one who gave them Schitzophrenia, maybe for a reason. Then if a mentaly retarded/unaware person commits a crime, are they sinning? Afterall they are retarded? And what about Phillipians 4:6 Do not be anxious about anthing, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. What happens to people with anxiety disorders like myself?! I’m not meaning to distrust God, I’m just anxious for no reason. I have two anxiety disorders, General Anxiety Disorder (GAD), and Emetephobia (fear of vommiting). And please don’t say I’m rediculous and fake because I’m scared to throw up, it’s serious.

3) This is kind of about the media

God says not to practice magic, but then there’s shows like Wizards of Waverly Place and movies like Harry Potter that are teaching kids magic is okay. Why is that?

4) What does God say about empaths, pychics, and mediums?
I’m prety sure I have a bit of an over sensitivity to places and people, and it’s not physic, but I do want to know about that. If God says not to consult mediums or pyschic, then are they natural born mediums, or not? Did God give them this as a gift, or did they teach themselves that through meditation/black magic? And also, why do the Christian paranormal teams on the Haunted often bring pyschic mediuams to a house?

I appreciate any answers I can get, thankyou and have a blessed day.

P.S. I know I’m kind of mental, but I love God and l plan to follow him forever and learning more about His word is the first step. icon smile Open Question: <3 A few questions about the Bible?

Open Question: What 5 books would you take with you on a stranded island?

Apr 22, 2012   //   by SueBennett   //   Blog  //  No Comments

- This Buddhist book I have on meditation and noble truths. I figure I’d become a monk if I’m going to be stranded.
- Don Quixote. A big, thick book that never fails to makes me laugh at times.
- Either Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone or Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban.
- A big book on the writings of Carl Jung (psychoanalysis). Might as well get into that as well, now that I’ll have loads of time on my hands!
- Frankenstein. My favorite book of all time.

Open Question: How do I decline diplomatically?

Dec 2, 2011   //   by SueBennett   //   Blog  //  No Comments

So, some time back a very conservative Christian (like, don’t read Harry Potter it’s evil conservative) invited me and my three children to his Bible study/family group. I’m dreadfully curious, but I use the word dreadfully because I’m not sure I’ll behave myself.

I don’t want the kids there at all. I say this not to start an argument, but to explain. I’m a druid and the concept of inherent sin and the need for forgiveness and redemption is morally repugnant to us. So I REALLY don’t want the children there.

While I’m curious, I’m not sure I’d hold my tongue as I should. I’m afraid I would snort, snicker, or grimace at the wrong time or they’d lay down an especially weak or juicy argument/explanation and I’d dive on it.

I can’t just say, “Well I find a good portion of your belief system to be offensive and immoral and you are basically idiots.” But I can’t find the way to properly word a decline. The closest I can get is, “I’m sorry but our beliefs just don’t line up with yours and I don’t think my presence would be conducive to an atmosphere of study and meditation. I think that it would be too easy for the whole thing to turn into a debate at each lesson.”

Help, I’m usually good with diplomacy but I can’t find the wording I’m looking for to be polite and strongly signify that I am not open to any further proselytizing.
