Open Question: How to practice Transcendental Meditation?
I would like to know what a person is doing when they sit for their daily Transcendental Meditation sessions. Could anyone tell me that, just simple step-by-step directions. I want to know about TM specifically.
Also, just to be clear, I don’t want to know about how helpful TM is or is not – I don’t need convincing one way or the other, that’s not my question at all. I also don’t care whether it’s not unique or is unique. And I certainly don’t care if you know a website that teaches meditation that’s “just the same.” All I’m asking is what people specifically practicing TM are doing in their daily sessions, step by step. It seems to be a very simple question but I’m having a lot of trouble finding a straight answer.
At the moment, this is my understanding from what I’ve read here and there:
1. Find a quiet place free of distraction.
2. Sit comfortably, with your arms at rest.
3. Close your eyes and begin mentally repeating your mantra. Your mantra is given to you by your TM teacher and is basically just a meaningless sound (like ‘ooohm’ or ‘oooour’) designed to free your mind of thoughts. In time, you stop the mantra? Repeat it again? I don’t know.
Maybe there’s something more, particular breathing, I don’t know. You tell me. But I believe you do this twice a day for 20 minutes with one session soon after you wake up.

Open Question: What is the difference in comparison with your practice of TM compared with PSM?
Hello:
I want to ask this question ONLY to those who have experienced/practiced Maharishi’s Transcendental Meditation AND Deepak Chopra’s Primordial Sound Meditation technique. Why does Chopra’s PSM have more mantras for the PSM Instructors to select from then TM?? Again (only to those who experienced both TM and PSM each, for a long period of time–what is your direct personal experience in the difference between Transcendental Meditation and Primordial Sound Meditation?? Although alot of research had been done on TM, what about on PSM specifically–especially in the comparison between TM and PSM??? Please respond and let me know right away, taking time to answer to great detail, if possible.
Thank you so very much!!!

Open Question: I think I have depression, but as a mental illness?
I feel like I have schizophrenia most of the time, and I mentally can’t accept any sort of happiness. I read it could be a mental illness from a chemical imbalance in the brain, which I certainly feel like I have it in that respect. I took up Transcendental Meditation, which helped me immensely for about a month, but depression just seemed to be hanging over me until that happiness wore out, but I hope it comes back. I don’t want to kill myself, but I think I might. How do I get treated for this depression without my parents knowing? I’m only 16.
